Masaka Chief Administrative Officer Martin Lukwago says they are formulating a policy to stop the new District Land Board from further issuance of free-hold titles on public land. Lukwago told URN in an interview that a lot of wrangles in the district have a bearing on the current land management disputes in the area.
Peter Ssenkungu, the former chairman of the district land board dragged Masaka District Administration to court challenging his dismissal by the district council headed by Chairman Jude Mbabaali. The council accused his committee of fraudulently allocating public land and gazetted greenbelts to developers.
Masaka Chief Administrative Officer William Kanyesige has ordered the Land Board Chairman Peter Ssenkungu and Hood Sseremba, the Secretary of the board over alleged corruption to vacate their offices and pave way for investigations into numerous illegal land allocations.
Contentious giveaways for which the team was probed include Hill Road Public School, The Golf Course, Masaka Bus Park, Children\'s Center and the dubious sell of 16,000 hectares of land at Gwamba and Mutemante among other villages in Buwunga and Bukakata sub counties.
This followed the outcome of an extra ordinary meeting convened by the District speaker Phoebe Kyewalyanga, to discuss among others, a petition seeking to dissolve the current land board and the fate of Peter Ssenkungu, the land board Chairperson.
