The East African Law Society (EALS) has called on leaders of East Africa to learn from the mistakes that John Pombe Magufuli, the President of Tanzania made during his five year term.
Magufuli, 61, died on Wednesday at a hospital in Dar es Salaam. His death was announced by the then Vice President Samia Suhulu. Today, President Museveni visited the Tanzanian High Commission to pay tribute to Magufuli where he signed a condolence book.
Some of the MPs Uganda Radio Network spoke to, say that Magufuli was a patriot who put his country first and was a man of action who developed the economy of Tanzania, while others say he violated human rights and was turning into an authoritarian leader.
Magufuli 61 was announced dead by the country's Vice President Hassan Samia Suhulu in a televised address on Wednesday. Magufuli who passed away at a hospital in Dar es Salaam was missing in public for weeks.
As the region mourns the fallen Tanzanian leader, we bring pictures of his first visit to Uganda as President of Tanzania having taken over the leadership of East Africa's largest country in 2015.
The mission led by former Burundi President, Sylvester Ntibantunganya says all political parties and candidates were able to conduct their campaigns across the country freely, while the opening of polling stations followed existing laws and procedures.
