Parliament Finally Approves National Health Insurance Bill 5 1

This means that, if assented to by the President, there will be a four per cent deduction on salaries of employees in the formal sector and a one per cent contribution from their employers, to contribute 1percent to the health scheme. Individuals in the informal sector will contribute an annual payment of 100, 000 Shillings.

Parliament Blocks Gov’t Move to Withdraw Health Insurance Bill 5 1

Robinah Nabbanja, the State Minister for Health announced that the government was withdrawing the bill, moments after the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga called for its second reading this afternoon. The Bill was first tabled before parliament for consideration in August 2019.

The National Health Insurance Bill, 2019 is currently before Parliament but recent media reports indicated that government was considering withdrawing it following disagreements between various stakeholders including the private sector, National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and different insurance regulatory authorities.
