Lt. Reuben Ndifuna, the spokesperson for Fisheries Protection Unit-FPU says that they destroyed 52,575 pieces of monofilament nets, 8,457kg of immature fish, 35,442, 10,881 illegal boats, 1,463 solar batteries and 189,103 illegal hooks among others.
James Erongu, a resident of Kadungulu Sub County says that the Police take every opportunity to extort money from unsuspecting community members. He, however, says that when it comes to illegal fishing practices, both the Police and army are extorting money from the culprits.
Lt. Colonel Edward Ijjo told Uganda Radio Network in an interview on Wednesday afternoon that the operations were prompted by various complaints from the public on the usage of illegal fishing gear on Lake Albert.
