The outcry comes as the farmers especially those in the neighbourhood of Queen Elizabeth National Park continue to incur losses as a result of wild animals that stray into communities destroying crops and sometimes even causing death of people.
On Sunday night elephants from Queen Elizabeth National Park raided Kyondo village, Scheme Ward of Nyamwamba Division destroyed crops worth hundreds of millions.
The reserve, Ranked Ugandas most important forest habitat is home to more than 150 species of birds, eighteen of which are endemic to the reserve, including the Grauers Swamp Warbler, the worlds highly endangered bird.
In March, Kabatagweta received the funds from Uganda Wildlife Authority-UWA to purchase goats for the 280 families neighbouring Kibaale National Park. Each of the goats was supposed to be valued at shillings 160,000.
According to the wildlife act 2000, UWA is expected to remit 20 of the revenue collected from the protected areas to the neighboring local governments. The local government is expected to distribute the money to residents to set up income generating projects to deter them from encroaching on the protected area.
