The joint operation, led by the Police and Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) Crime Intelligence, was intelligence-driven and targeted areas including Najjera, Bulindo, and Shimon, resulting in the arrest of 30 suspects.
Preliminary findings by Katwe Police suggest that the fire, which started at around 10:00 PM, was caused by an electrical short circuit. The three-room residential house, owned by Faridah Nabukeera, who is currently abroad, was being occupied by her sister, Magret Namwanje, and her 3-year-old nephew, Jeremiah Ssegujja, at the time of the incident.
According to Henry Mutyaba, the local Councilor, the area, which is busy, has become a hideout for thugs and criminals after being abandoned by its owners. The area was previously earmarked for road construction by the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), leading to its neglect.
Owoyesigyire confirmed that the police recovered some cash from the four suspects who have confirmed that the stolen amount exceeded 10 million shillings.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, preliminary investigations reveal that the duo conspired to rob a bullion van, registration number UAJ 199T, while transporting cash from Lubowa to Nakasero. The van was later abandoned in Nabunya, Rubaga Division, along with two rifles.
Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor, Doreen Nyanjura, revealed that the victim of the shooting incident was her brother, Albert Cook Tugume, who owned and operated a mobile money shop near Fraine Supermarket in Ntinda-Kigowa.
The suspects, identified as Edwin Lukwago and Ezekiel Asiimwe, were apprehended by the riders after a high-speed chase, according to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, Ssejjibwa was apprehended during an operation in Natete's Ssendawula zone, where a group of assailants had raided an apartment complex and stolen various items.
“So far we have three suspects, among them there is one who was arrested and was found sleeping under the bridge of the flyover, near the crime scene. He has led us to other two of his colleagues over the weekend,” Owoyesigyire said.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, has identified the suspects as Mary Kansiime aged 21 years and her boyfriend Policarpe Bulambo, a 25-year-old Congolese resident of Nakinyuguzi Zone, Luwafu.

During Monday's operations in Bugolobi and Naguru, four ex-convicts, including Benon Mutebi, Sharif Ssenfuma (aka Shisha), and Daniel Ziwa Dan Kiwanuka, were arrested by the Jinja Road Police Division. All these individuals had criminal records with the police.
