The said persons were arrested between June 24, and July 2, 2021, for orchestrating and participating in the shooting that happened on June 1, 2021, along Kisota road, a suburb of Kampala. Those in custody include Sheikh Yusuf Siraji Nyanzi, Hussein Sserubula, Muhammad Kagugube, Kamada Walusimbi, Siriman Ayuub Kisambira , Abdulaziz Ramathan Dunku, Habib Ramanthan Marjan and Huzaifa Wampa.
The applicants' lawyer Turyamusiima told court that they needed evidence in form of death certificates to prove that indeed those who are missing have since died and to show under what circumstances did they die. Turyamusiima has told URN that they will be planning to see what next after the Attorney General provides evidence of death of their clients since the Ugandan laws do not provide for unlawful killings.
According to one of the suspects' lawyers Geoffrey Turyamusiima, although police confirms the arrest of only five suspects, they have heard rumours that some of those not named by police were shot dead and bodies carried away.
Mabirizi has also moved to seek a certificate of urgency such that the case can be heard and determined expeditiously since the hearing of cases was suspended by the Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo due to Covid-19.
