COP14 Calls For Intervention to Curb Global Bird Flu Threat 1 4 Top story

The suggestion comes after a warning by the World Health Organisation -WHO that the recent surge in bird flu outbreaks among mammals could help the virus spread easily among humans. The world has since 2021 had a surge in the of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N or bird flu which led to the death of wild birds and poultry and incidental infections in mammals.

Uganda On Alert as Bird Flu is Confirmed in DRC fall armyworm 1

The Food and Agricultural Organisation this week confirmed outbreaks of Bird Flu in southern Africa so far reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. The organisation warned that the spread of avian influenza has far-reaching animal health, food and nutritional security and socio-economic impacts in the Sub region.

Experts Take Fresh Samples from Avian Flu Affected Areas avian influenza 1 6

Dr Kenneth Mugabi, a senior Veterinary Officer in-charge of Epidemic Animal Diseases is leading a team of epidemiologists collecting samples from affected birds at the Island areas of Masaka district. The team has visited the landing sites of Lambu and Kachanga, and some villages in Bukakata Sub County.
