Xavier Kyooma, the Committee Chairperson says that although a candidate vaccine was identified, there is no indication that it has been patented, which casts doubt on its identification.
Prof. Walter Jaoko, a Medical Microbiologist at the University of Nairobi told journalists attending a virtual East Africa Regional Science Café that scientists established this in an analysis to determine efficacy estimates of various COVID-19. He says that the study also showed that all vaccines provide protection against severe illness and hospitalization.
The directive followed a statement on the country’s COVID-19 response and vaccination process which was presented before Parliament by Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng. During the debate, Ntungamo Municipality MP Yona Musinguzi noted that a statement presented by the Minister mostly made reference to donated supplies and limited procurement by the country.
