Dr. Monica Musenero has said that no funds were released directly to the Presidential Scientific Initiative on Epidemics (PRESIDE) for Covid-19 vaccine research purposes.
The committee was set up in November 2021 to investigate allegations of irregularities reported on the receipt and utilization of funds for Covid-19 vaccine development by the Presidential Scientific Initiative on Epidemics (PRESIDE).
Dr. Musenero requested that the presentations on the status of the ongoing Covid-19 vaccine research be heard by MPs on camera because they need to protect intellectual property.
The commitee will be chaired by Ibanda North MP Xavier Kyooma Akampurira. The other members of the committee are Butambala Woman MP Aisha Kabanda, Bukooli Central MP Solomon Silwany, Otuke North MP Paul Omara and Nwoya County MP Tony Awany.
Deputy Speaker Among asked MP Yona Musinguzi to proceed with tabling documentary evidence and among the documents he tabled is the budget of 31 billion Shillings that was appropriated to PRESIDE. But according to Musinguzi, the money was reportedly channeled to different individual scientists who have allegedly denied receiving the funds.
