On 23rd February, 2023, the Luwero District Service Commission ordered 41 teachers to appear before it to defend themselves in cases of abandonment from duty. The 41 teachers had been accused of being away from work for over three months without permission from their supervisors which is against Public Standing Orders.
A senior officer who preferred anonymity said that the new directives are unfair to the sector because they will affect many teachers who are struggling to return to work following prolonged COVID-19 lockdown. So far 25 teachers in the Nakaseke district have not returned to work following the lifting of the COVID 19 lockdown.
In December 2021, the Inspectorate impounded the two trucks registration numbers UG 6495M and UG 6646M loaded with construction materials believed to be for a high-ranking health ministry official.
