The MPs on Thursday, while interfacing with the Engineering brigade officials led by the Minister of State for Defence (Veteran Affairs), Huda Oleru, raised concern about the progress of works executed by the brigade, citing issues of efficiency, project timelines, and budget allocations.
Vincent Bagambe, the Director of Planning and Strategic Information at the Uganda Aids Commission, warned that the withdrawal of U.S. funding will derail Uganda’s progress in combating HIV/AIDS.
“I request that Mbarara Hospital be given another chance in terms of funding. It is a referral of referrals. Masaka, Kabale, and Fort Portal regional referral hospitals send patients to Mbarara, but its budget is not increasing,” Kabasharira observed.
Dr Byarugaba said that it was disturbing that politicians don't want to pay for hospital services and expect peasants to pay for the same, adding that although the hospital is often blamed for not raising revenue, all efforts in this direction have been frustrated by Ministers, Members of Parliament and other political leaders.
