Rose Chemie, an elder from Karita Sub County in Amudat district explains that men now feel uncomfortable with mutilated women whose cut organs dont provide sexual excitement and are now opting for uncircumcised women outside the district.
Moses Agum, the Amudat Deputy Chief Administrative Officer says they are compiling a list of the affected. He notes that no deaths have been recorded despite the fact that a number of houses fell during the heavy rains.
The police have identified the abductees as 12-year-old Cherop and his 18 year-old brother Geoffrey Chebet, a senior two student of Namang Senior Secondary School in Bukwo district. Amudat District Police Commander Bashir Isiraba says Lourong Eturok and Linganyang Todokwang were killed after the pit from which they were mining gold caved in. He explains that the incident occurred at around mid-day when miners had settled in for their dayâ€™s work.
A total of 400 school going-age children in Amudat District have fled their homes in the last 10 months for fear of being subjected to female genital mutilation (FGM). The children aged between three and 12 years, have abandoned cattle keeping and enrolled in schools.
