The Bukalasa Land Offices have faced scrutiny due to bribery, fraud, and mismanagement of land records. Reports indicate that officials solicit bribes for processing land transactions, issuing land titles, or resolving disputes.
The delegation was advised to use the back door for their safety when retrieving the Pastoral Staff, the symbol of power for the retiring Anglican bishop of Luwero Diocese, Rt. Rev. Eridard Kironde Nsubuga.
"In light of the current situation and to prevent any unforeseen circumstances arising from certain Christians who disagree with the decision taken by the House of Bishops, we kindly ask you to inform the Luwero District Resident District Commissioner (RDC), who is in charge of security in the district, to take decisive action to ensure the security of the Christians on Sunday," part of Canon Ongeng's letter to Bishop Nsubuga reads.
On March 15, 2023, the nomination committee led by counsel Apollo Makubuya selected Rev. Abel Sserwanja Mmerewooma, the St. Stephen's Church Parish Priest in Kireka in Namirembe Diocese, and Rev. Canon Godfrey Kasana Ssemakula, the Archdeacon of Ndejje Archdeaconry in Luwero Diocese, as the successful candidates from the eight aspirants for the seat.
