Prior to visiting Makindye Police barracks, the Mufti consulted Lt. Gen. Gutti who gave green light to the visit. Armed with the authorisation notice, the Mufti and his delegation stormed Makindye Military barracks this morning but were turned away without any explanation.
The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council UMSC has yet again called upon all Muslims to start recognising the deaths of all the Muslim martyrs that were killed by Kabaka Mutesa I by offering prayers for them. It is believed that more than 74 Muslims were killed between 1874 and 1876 by Mutesa I of Buganda. Historians, however, documented mainly the Christian martyrs killed between 1885 and 1887 by Muteesas son and successor as Kabaka, Basamula-Ekkere Mwanga.
The Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Mubajje has called on Muslims to take active roles in the running of the country. In his Eid el Fitr message on Thursday at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council headquarters in Old Kampala, Mubajje also called on Muslims to exhibit the same unity they have been showing during their thirty days of fasting to bring respect to the Islamic faith.
We also applaud the president of Uganda His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for returning the â€œebyaffeâ€ as they are popularly known to His Majesty the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. We commend the central government and Buganda Kingdom for resolving their differences amicably. This is the way to go.
Ahmed Kayongo, chairman Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, Interim Electoral Commission says the election of Muslim leaders countrywide will go on as scheduled despite protests from members of the Kibuli based faction.
