They were dragged to court by the state for inciting violence during a public rally at Kabale Municipal stadium in 2012. Four police officers were injured in the clashes and police vehicles vandalised.
Eight opposition leaders including former FDC leader Kizza Besigye and Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, have this morning denied their participation in the past violent protests and unrest in the country. The eight politicians appeared before Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Olive Kazaarwe, who later released them on a non cash bail of one million shillings.
