The Cranes open their 2017 AFCON campaign against Ghana this evening at Gabons Stade de Port-Gentil, the first time in 39 years that Uganda will be playing in the biennial tournament. Ironically, it was Ghanas Black Stars that beat Uganda 2-0 in the 1978 finals.

Mawejje failed to feature in 1st leg of African cup of nation’s qualifiers 2015 that the cranes lost to Madagascar 2-1 because he was on club duty at Hk Haugesund, Norway. His counterpart Moses Oloya who features for Bin Dong FC in Vietnam got injured before turning up for national duty.

Uganda Cranes head coach Micho Sredojevic says Uganda cranes will aim at improving its attacking wing in order to overcome the hurdle posed by the initial loss. He says the loss was disappointing considering that Uganda was a better team with better rankings.

Emma Okwi's Cranes Goal Excites Teso emmanuel okwi 2

Uganda Cranes’ historic 4-0 win against visiting Congo Brazzaville at Namboole stadium last Saturday, has continued to generate excitement across the country including Teso sub region. In parts of Teso, it has remained common to find people excitedly chatting in groups about the win and notably about the contribution of one of the goal scorers, Emmanuel Okwi who hails from the area.
