Most of the refugees have refused to move to Bubukwanga Transit Camp, about 30 kilometres from Busunga reception centre at the border post, despite facing serious safety and hygiene issues and lack of food.
According to legislators the camp, where they are now, is congested with 2,680 persons recorded from 81 households. They argue that the camp is posing a serious health risk to both the internal and external population after 126 persons tested positive for COVID-19.
Asiimwe Banji has denied the reported influx of the refugees, saying that they are aware of people with relatives in DRC who have habitually aided them to enter the district through Rwamabale in Ntoroko District.
