Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party candidate, Winnie Kiiza emerged winner of the elections when she polled 97,669 votes, while her closest rival Rehema Muhindo of the NRM polled 59,946 votes. The NRM support in the district appears to have declined since the February 2011 elections in which the same candidate got 90,624 against Kiizaâ€™s 92,108 votes.
As a result, the angry FDC members decided to storm the office of the District registrar located on Alexander Street in Kasese town to demand an explanation why they were not on the register but were chased away by police.
FDC party official Christopher Kibazanga has been released hours after police in Kasese raided his home early on Tuesday morning sparking off running battles between anti-riot police and his supporters.
