Kasolo, a member of the National Unity Platform-NUP party was declared as the newly elected Mayor of Jinja City on Friday. He defeated nine contestants who include Forum for Democratic Change’s-FDC Frank Nabwiso who was the first runners up.
The land that belongs to Jinja municipal council is said to have been illegally awarded to Thummar Joy Maganlal Patel without following the rightful procedures. According to Sakwa, Thummar used the influence of leaders to forge district land board minutes which he used to apply for a freehold title on the land.
The money includes 20 million Shillings which was allegedly spent on the construction of a toilet facility at Kaberebere market, 10 million Shillings which was allegedly spent to facilitate a workshop for LC III councilors and another 10 million Shillings meant for the payment of Crime Preventers.
The application was filed by traders resisting a plan by Mbarara Municipality to relocate them to Mbarara Independence Park to pave way for the construction of a new structure under the Markets and Agricultural Trade Improvement program MATIP.
Robert Bushweta, the representative of Kakoma Ward in Kakiika Division says the transfer should be followed with thorough investigations into his actions to assess the damage he could have caused to the municipality.
