Kamure alleges that during Akena’s illegal tenure in office, the party was driven on non UPC ideologies since the later sought for an alliance with President Museveni’s National Resistance Movement Party-NRM.
Uganda Peoples Congress UPC has this evening honoured former party national chairman Maj Edward Rurangaranga at the party head offices at Uganda House, Kampala, in a ceremony that lasted less than 30 minutes.
One of the UPC factions led by Joseph Bbosa has organised the national council on December 10, 2016 at the Ankrah Foundation in Mukono. Lira Municipality MP Jimmy Akena, who heads another faction of the party, says the meeting is illegal and must be stopped.
According to Otunnu, his earlier plans to vacate the party leadership were sabotaged by the unholy alliance between the Jimmy Akena faction and President Yoweri Museveni, which is now clear for all to see.
On 5th February, Joseph Bbosa, the UPC Vice president, wrote to party legal representative Ms. Kavuma Kabenge and Company Advocates instructing them to withdraw the application. Bossa told URN on phone that the party administration decided to withdraw the application following a court ruling that declared Akenas leadership null and void.
The party is using the 2010 delegates register for the exercise because they have not organized legitimate party district conferences in which over 300 delegates are expected to attend. Ishaa Otto the National Mobilisation Secretary in the Otunnu faction says that they are crossing out names of defectors and the deceased and those who have willfully returned party cards.
The Akena leadership is opposed to the continued representation of the party by ordinary members and the use of the party flag by the alliance, following the resolutions of the National Council in August, in which the faction disassociated itself from the alliance.
The leadership of Olara Otunnu the deposed party president has called upon members of the party from across the country to mobilise and storm the party headquarters at Uganda House due to the trespass by the Akena leadership.
Delegates to the Uganda Peoples Congress National Council this afternoon directed the party to fire Peter Walubiri as the Chairperson of the Milton Obote Foundation accusing him of working against the interests of the party.
