Sam Agaba, the Regional Inspectorate Officer Kabale, says the suspect was found with the money he had received from the complainant in his pocket during arrest. He says he suspect will be charge with soliciting and receiving a bribe.
In a statement issued this afternoon, the Finance Ministry Spokesperson, Jim Mugunga, says the officials were picked up in a Police operation at the Ministry headquarters this morning in relation to an ongoing investigation.
Police in Kabale are holding the Kabale Chief Magistrates Court Clerk on allegations of soliciting a bribe of six hundred thousand shillings. Julius Zaribugyire is being accused of obtaining the money from Sylvia Kantwiiga, 58 and 34-year-old Ediviana Ninsiima. The two are mother and sister to Joseph Owomugisha who is on remand at Ndorwa Government prison on assault charges.
Atim Maureen, one of the suspects told court presided over by Justice Paul Mugamba, that she paid the police officers 4.3 million shillings to stop them from torturing her. She was arrested on July 19th and detained at Lira Central Police station.
