Two men masquerading as journalists have been arrested at St. Marys College Aboke in Kole district where they were demanding for a bribe. The suspects are Elly Apenyo and Denis Ogwal, both residents of Lira town.
Robert Abak, the Lira Resident District Commissioner, says the two were apprehended on Wednesday evening after they tried to bribe an officer at Lira Central Police Station to release their vehicle that was impounded by police for alleged involvement in a robbery.
Two Police officers attached to Lira Central Police Station have arrested for attempting to extort two million shillings. The two officers have been identified as AIP Moses Odongo (Community Liaison Department), and detective constable Julius Opira.
Atim Maureen, one of the suspects told court presided over by Justice Paul Mugamba, that she paid the police officers 4.3 million shillings to stop them from torturing her. She was arrested on July 19th and detained at Lira Central Police station.
