The finding shows that the number of lions has reduced from 600 to 400 in the past decade. The biggest decline was recorded in Murchison Falls National Park where the ‘king of the beasts’ decreased from 320 to 130 animals.
Nelson Natukunda, the Kihihi Sub County LC 3 chairperson, says the officers managed to push back four Lions into the national park when they fired in the air. He however, says one of the Lions managed to get away and is still at large.

Tabled before parliament in July 2017, the Uganda Wildlife Bill is meant to provide for the compensation of loss occasioned by wild animals from wildlife protected areas. Alum says that under the current provisions, the Uganda Wildlife Authority is incapacitated to handle the marauding animals and deal with compensation for loss of property arising from destruction by wildlife.
James Musinguzi, the Executive Director Uganda Wild Life Education Center, says although the municipality doesnt earn directly from the sector, residents it benefit by providing good and services to sector players like UWEC.
