Opposition in parliament has today tasked government to explain recurring mysterious killings of security officers and threats to citizens across the country. In a statement on the floor of Parliament, Leader of Opposition LOP Winnie Kiiza highlighted several killings in Masaka where attackers leave behind leaflets mentioning their next targets.
Koomu cites the case of Kizza Nabaweesi who was strangled and her body hang on her ceiling. Although she lived a stone throw away from Butalangu Police post and screamed for help before she was killed, no one came to her rescue. Her case remains unsolved.
On Saturday night, unknown assailants attacked the home of James Kwata a prominent businessman and a money lender, killed him, his wife Didas Namubiru and their five months -old baby.
President’s Press Secretary Tamale Mirundi questioned if the Member of Parliament is known beyond Rakai to issue an ultimatum to the president for intervention saying that those ultimatums do not work.
Another person has been killed in Rakai district. The latest victim is Kalori Kate (80), a resident of Kiganda Village, Lwanda Sub County in Rakai District.
President Yoweri Museveni however blamed the Judiciary for the escalating killings. He explained that he was surprised that some of the suspects arrested in connection with murders are always released on bail.
