Dr. Vicent Oketcho, the Chief of Party of IntraHealth International - Uganda, discloses that in some districts such as Iganga, local leaders went further to use the attendance records to make administrative decisions including payment of salaries based on the number of days worked.
On Wednesday, the leaders grilled the in-charge of Oroko Health Centre in Palaro Sub County after they found the health facility closed during working hours. Six workers on duty were absent at the facility as residents seeking treatment waited in front of the facility.
Grace Rubaale, the Principal Administrator Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital, says the innovation is aimed at regularizing staff attendance of at the hospital. Rubaale explains that in the past they were using a register, which was often abused.
