Michael Lakony, the Amuru District Chairman says they revamped the operation on the illegal charcoal business after the perpetrators infiltrated Wii-Ceri Forest Reserve and other areas in Amuru like Lakang, Pogo, Apaa and Okidi.
The National Forestry Authority ordered 216 people to vacate Mbaale Forest Reserve, to pave way for tree planting. The residents were given only two months to vacate the 1208 hectares forest reserve located in Butuntumula Sub County, Luweero district.
NFA Executive Director Michael Mugisa explains that due to massive encroachment on the forest reserves brought on by increased human activity, the districts resolved that they get alternative land elsewhere to accommodate the forests.
Mbarara Municipal Councilors have finally blocked foreign investors from acquiring land on the Ruti Central Forest Reserve. Previous attempts by councilors to block the allocation of the same land hit a dead end after they failed to win the support of the executive lead by Municipal Mayor Wilson Tumwine.
