Up to 8:00am, some of the polling stations in Soroti City had not opened the ballot boxes. Similar situation was recorded in Mukono and Buikwe in Central Buganda, Ntoroko, Kabarole and Kyenjojo in Tooro sub region, Luweero, Masaka, among others.
At many polling stations in Lira, the voting activity has not yet started because there are no voters. The polling assistants and agents are seated hoping that any time, voters will walk in and exercise their right.
Electoral Commission officials led by Barbara Mulimbira, the Kyenjojo district registrar and Margaret Kugonza, the registrar Kyegegwa, went to Kyenjojo FM and Kyenjojo Development radio in Kyenjojo town at around 1pm to encourage voters to participate in the elections following a low voter turnout.
According to the declaration documents by Charles Rwebero, the Pallisa District Electoral Commission Registrar, only 26,364 of the 52,835 registered voters in Butebo County in Pallisa district participated in the by-election on Thursday. The declaration also indicates that not a single person showed up to vote in a total of 18 polling stations in the two sub counties of Opwateta and Kibale.
