The nomination for Luwero Kadhi had been set for Wednesday to select replacement of Mustapha Lule Khamis the former Kadhi who was elevated to serve as Regional Kadhi for Eastern Buganda region in 2019.
As most roads in the north and eastern parts of Kampala were blocked to motorized traffic, motorists using the Kampala-Jinja Highway to the city centre were most affected, with traffic being diverted at Jokas Hotel through Kyaliwajjala and Port Bell Road to the city Centre.
Almost all candidates indicated that their focus for the campaign is on the unfulfilled pledges by the NRM government to the people of Luwero district, where the National Resistance Army waged a guerrilla war for the Liberation of Uganda.
Among those nominated today is Maryline kabugho from whom the NRM Electoral Commission snatched the party flag at the last minute and handed it to her political nemesis Sarah Ithungu. Kabugho has opted to contest as an independent candidate.
The decision came after Angelline Osegge the Soroti Woman MP alerted parliament that women who had discrepancies in their names from the academic transcripts and marriage certificates risked being locked out of the electoral process, yet it's a normal practice for women to abandon their maiden names after getting married.
Dr. Linda Zedriga Waru, the Deputy President for Northern Uganda says the office will help mobilize support for the party in the coming elections and will also give a permanent address for NUP and coordinate all its activities in the region.
Azizi Junju, one of the losers of the NRM primaries told URN he decided to go independent because the party polls were not free and fair especially in Nyenga division where his opponent, Yasin Kyazze scored highly.
The nominated candidates include the current party president, Major-General Mugisha Muntu who is seeking a second term in office. Others are party youth league chief mobiliser Moses Byamugisha and a one Dan Matsiko Malcom, a businessman cum politician who returned from South Africa recently. Three more candidates will be nominated tomorrow. These include Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa, former Kumi County legislator Patrick Oboi Amuriat and Moses Bakubi Lukubira who was supposed to be nominated today but requested to be pushed to tomorrow.
