More than 500 families in Bunghoko Sub County, Mbale district are protesting a planned eviction from a contested piece of land claimed by a businessman based in Mbale. This week, Simon Wephukhulu, a businessman in Mbale sought a court order from Mbale High Court to evict more than 3,000 people living on the land to pave way for the survey of the land.
At least 330 residents from three villages in Lugusulu Sub-county in Ssembabule District have petitioned President Museveni to intervene and save them from being evicted. The residents say they do not have the money to pay for the land they are squatting on.
In his petition to President Yoweri Museveni dated May 26 2013, Wamoto claims that he has received several death threats from those he calls land grabbers who he says are angry with his position on the disputed land in Bunambutye and Bwikhonge sub counties in Bulambuli district.
