The row between the Diocese and the residents has been developing silently and escalated on June 1, after Edward Kagoro, the Bunyoro-Kitara diocese land chairperson issued a notice to the residents saying that the land belongs to the church.
First Deputy Premier Henry Muganwa Kajura has this Wednesday publicly taken sides in the Hoima land conflict and tasked security to explain why only Banyoro were arrested after the Rwengabi land clashes last Wednesday. Kajura who is also Hoima Municipality Member of Parliament was addressing a stakeholders meeting he convened to seek a solution to the land problem.
The Minister who visited the affected residents in Rwengabi trading center on Monday evening also conveyed the Omukama's sympathies to the affected people. Like other kingdom observers, Kiiza said the attacks were a work of wrong elements in the kingdom, acting without knowledge of the king.
The verification exercise followed complaints by local leaders over eviction of about 25000 residents from the parishes of Bukinda and Kasonga .The residents were evicted to give way for resettlement of about 20,000 Congolese refugees that fled fresh fighting in Eastern Congo. The verification committee was headed by Maj.Gen. Julius Oketa, head of the National Emergency Coordinating Center office of the Prime Minister.
One person has been killed and three others critically injured during a land clash in Kiziranfumbi sub county Hoima district. Several houses were burnt and property worth unspecified amount of money destroyed during the Tuesday night land scuffle in Kyabataka B village, Kiziranfumbi Sub Bounty.

War veterans in Hoima are seeking the presidentâ€™s intervention over a contested public land in Kyangwali and Kabwoya sub counties. The veterans are claiming over 2000 acres in Nyairongo and Kanyaigaramire villages.
Bunyoro Kitara Diocese says it is overwhelmed with court cases involving individuals who want to grab church land. The diocese is currently battling with some residents for attempting to grab part of the church land with some cases in the magistratesâ€™ courts while others in the lower LC courts.
