The lights have been installed along with areas that have been rendered dangerous. The Municipal Council said they want to reduce the rampant cases of theft, killing of motorcycle boda-boda riders and rape among others in the area.
Charles Aisu, the LC 3 Chairperson, Busamuzi Sub County, said the population in Buvuma district has grown big, arguing that a ferry that makes three routes a day with a capacity of 120 passengers is no longer enough for them.
The group comprises volunteers selected from the communities to promote and implement community policing through a model of neighbourhood watch, commonly known as mayumba Kumi. They are selected on the recommendation of Local Council leaders and trained by police to act as a link between the community and police in detecting and preventing crime.
