Pieces of Seized Ivory Traced to UWA ivory trade 2

The seized consignment was disguised as telecommunication equipment reportedly from MTN destined for Amsterdam for repairs. It consisted of seven large wooden boxes filled with ivory and pangolin scales coated with aluminum sheets. Authorities have now discovered that the consignment contained 791 kilograms of ivory valued at about shs 1.1 billion and 2029 kilograms of pangolin scales valued at over shs 2.5 billion.

Uganda Lacks Wildlife Database To Carry Out DNA Tests For Ivory ivory trade 2

Last year, close to 1000 kilograms of ivory were confiscated and the culprits ran away. The government took over 400 samples of the ivory confiscated to USA for DNA analysis to trace the origin of the ivory. Up to now, the results of the DNA tests have not yet been released to Uganda, and the case still pending at the Anti Corruption Court.

International Arrest Warrant Issued for Illegal Ivory Dealers ivory trade

Owino Odhiambo, a Kenyan national and his colleague Emmile Kayumba Ogane believed to be Congolese were implicated a scandal which involved the trafficking about 1000 kilograms of ivory impounded by Uganda Revenue Authority last year.
