Hajjat Aisha Lubega, the EC Vice-Chairperson on Thursday said that contrary to their previous stand not to send election observers in the coming election, the EU delegation has now expressed interest to be participants.
In their final report after the 2016 polls, the European Union Elections Observer Mission made 30 recommendations that needed to be given priority to improve Uganda's elections. They include granting the Electoral Commission sole regulatory power to regulate essential parts of the electoral process, including voter registration, polling, tallying and electoral dispute system prior and during the election.
Yusuf Makwetta, an official from the Citizen Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU) says some Electoral Commission officials failed to diligently execute their duties as enshrined in the electoral laws of Uganda. He noted that several polling officials were compromised and gave room for rigging.
