Dr Nathan Onyachi, the Director Masaka Regional Referral Hospital, says that the hospital asked all health workers that had lost the houses, to file appeals so that their cases can be looked into by the hospital management.
Justus Nsabimana, one of the leaders of Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union at Masaka Hospital, says at least 20 nurses have been ordered to leave the staff houses for failing to reapply. He says that they didn’t get any communication from the hospital as to why even those that have been occupying the staff houses had to reapply, something which they referred to as mistreatment by the hospital authorities.
Swaibu Sulambaaya, the Chairman of Patients Masaka Regional Referral Hospital, says they are happy with the arrest of the top administrators. Sulambaaya alleges that the hospital suspended patient meals illegally yet government releases money to feed patients without financial support.
The power crisis has seriously affected medical services at Masaka regional referral Hospital. Dr. Florence Tugumisirize, the Masaka Hospital Director says although they now use generators daily, there are other equipment that cannot run on generator. She says the equipment used in neonatal unit does not use a generator.
