URA collected 1.2 trillion Shillings in July 2020 against a target of 1.02 trillion Shillings – registering a surplus of 179 billion Shillings for the month, according to the reporting by the Ministry of Finance in July performance of the economy report.
Joseph Ssebyala, a trader at Sagio Telecoms in Nyendo town has welcomed the tax assessment review. He however, wants URA to hold massive sensitise meetings to educate the public on various forms of taxes required of them.
In his letter to the contractor, Edward Lwanga, the Town Clerk Municipal Council explains that the contractor failed to fulfill the terms and conditions of the contract as required. He accuses the contractor of failing to remit Shillings 161 million.
Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) officials today closed Kampala Nandos and Mateos, a popular bar and restaurant respectively, over accumulated tax liabilities. URA officials confirmed to URN that Nandos had unpaid taxes of 250 million Uganda Shillings. They also said Mateos had tax arrears of about 150 million Uganda Shillings. All these arrears are said to be accumulated and carried forward.
As the financial year comes to a close, the pressure on Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to bridge the revenue collection shortfall is at its peak. Today, the revenue body released a list of 178 tax defaulters whose unpaid arrears total 25.8billion Uganda Shillings.
