MPs Want Uganda Wildlife Bill Expedited problem elephants 1

Tabled before parliament in July 2017, the Uganda Wildlife Bill is meant to provide for the compensation of loss occasioned by wild animals from wildlife protected areas. Alum says that under the current provisions, the Uganda Wildlife Authority is incapacitated to handle the marauding animals and deal with compensation for loss of property arising from destruction by wildlife.

The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Executive Director Andrew Seguya has said that oil activities are not interfering with wildlife in the Albertine graben. This is contrary to the information from other UWA officials who say that the activities going on in the Albertine have greatly affected wildlife in the area.

Dufile Residents Petition Parliament over Rampaging Wild Animals wildlife 1

They suggest, for example, that government considers increasing the number of Uganda People\'s Defence Forces (UPDF) troops in the area. They also want the government of Uganda to cooperate with that of South Sudan to enable the wildlife staff and other security agencies of both countries to cub the problem of insecurity caused by wildlife animals in the area.

Mt. Elgon National Park Neighbours Petition Parliament over UWA Killings wildlife

The petition follows the recent shooting and killing of a 21-year- old resident of Bumasifwa sub-county identified as John Gimei who had reportedly gone to the park to look for herbs after his wife had given birth.
