According to Prof. Kateregga, as vice chancellors they are considering passing a resolution to not only to ashame the implicated university staff but also to forward their names to all East African Universities through the East African inter-universities council and Ugandas Vice Chancellors forum to deny them jobs.
Dr. Swizen Kyomuhendo, a senior lecturer in the Department of Social Work and Social Administration SWSA at Makerere University, has denied allegations of sexually exploiting female students. Dr Kyomuhendo was suspended last week on allegations of Sexual Harassment. This was after a story ran on NBS Television on the night of February 26, 2018 where he was purportedly courting his female student in exchange for marks.
Dr. Deus Muhwezi Kamunyu, the chairperson of the Makerere University Academic Staff Association-MUASA has said the lecturers are distressed by sexual harassment reports in the media.
Makerere University has instituted proceedings to look into Dr Swizen Kyomuhendo, a senior lecturer mentioned in the alleged sexual harassment of female students. This comes just a day after a story appeared on NBS TV in which Dr Kyomuhendo, who teaches in the Department of Social Work and Social Administration SWSA, is seen luring one of his students to a lodge to have some fun. In the story, the victim claimed that the lecturer had promised to adjust her marks if she cooperated.
While the report was submitted to Makerere University Appointments Board for appropriate action, the Board Chairperson, Bruce Balaba Kabaasa, says they cant take any action since the matter is before court.
The Inspector General of Government IGG Irene Mulyagonja has dropped investigations into a case in which Makerere University allegedly promoted one of its staff irregularly.
Although Prof. Ddumba Sentamu, the Makerere University vice chancellor dismissed the reports of the award of the fake degrees as false and unfounded, he said they have instituted investigations into the matter.
