The National Resistance Movement NRM members in Moroto are asking the party top leadership to severely punish the district leadership for aiding ethnic division. The party members who are travelling to Kampala to meet President Museveni argue that the district leaders were behind ethnic divisions recently encountered by the Matheniko and the Tepeth during the party primaries for the Moroto parliamentary by-election.
President Yoweri Museveni, who met with about 60 of the incumbent National Resistance Movement MPs, says if they feel they have the support from voters to win in the 2016 elections, they are free to be nominated and stand as independents.
Amon Mbusa, the Kasese District NRM party registrar says he cannot determine the pace at which the petitions are handled since they were addressed directly to the NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi.
A highly placed source told URN, Lumumba held a closed door meeting with close to forty MPs at the Members Lounge at Parliament this afternoon and persuaded them to wait for the NRM Electoral Commission to handle their petitions.
Through their lawyer Mugarura Mwijusya and company advocate, the former Rwampara County aspirants want High Court to compel Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Party Electoral Commission to annul the poll results and conduct fresh elections.
