The impassable roads are spread across 124 villages and 34 parishes in the two Divisions of Gulu City. Currently, some of the parishes with notable bad and impassable roads include Tegwana, Kirombe, Pece Cubu, Kabed’opong, Layibi-Techo and Kanyagoga among others.
The heated council that was under strict guidance from the permanent secretary local government Patrick Mutabwire this time approved four new divisions with a central city division.Sabo Kamilo, the secretary for finance presented before council the four newly proposed divisions.
Currently Lira municipality has an estimated population of about 150,000 which is said to be far below te required 500,000 for a city status.
Under this initiative, some sub counties bordering the municipality shall be in cooperated to be part of town
Gulu Municipality has rolled out a 16 billion shillings project that will see five roads with a stretch of 3.5 kilometres constructed. The project is financed by the Government of Uganda through the Uganda support to municipal infrastructure development (USMID). China Hennan International Group of Company (CHICO) has been contracted to undertake the works over a period of 12 months.
