Mutiibwa first (mis)informed police detectives that she had sent the child to her distant relatives in Mayuge district. However after thorough inquiries, she directed them to the sugarcane plantation located about 200 meters away from her home, where she had buried the child after murdering her.
The farmers note that, unlike the bureaucratic system of selling sugarcane, which involves powerful middlemen to procure sale permits at the expense of smallholder farmers, cocoa exporters directly purchase the fruits from the farmers, hence enabling them to individually negotiate for competitive prices.

Weyeye was grazing cattle with five other children on Wednesday evening when an unidentified man showed up with a machete and chopped off his head before vanishing from the scene. One of the boys, who witnessed the incident, says that the assailants targeted Weyeye because he was grazing cattle ahead of them.
