The ministry pays membership fees to four International Organizations including the World Trade Organization, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa COMESA and United Nations Industrial Development Organization UNIDO and South Center.
As a member of FTA, countries trade on a full duty free and quota free basis. Uganda as one of the 19 members of COMESA FTA, is exposed to regional markets, where it can export its products and in return get high export earnings. Kyambadde says that with FTA, Uganda has created trade interconnections that have enabled easier movement of goods and labour.
Amelia Kyambadde, Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives has revealed that the Common Market for East and Southern Africa (COMESA) has already allocated funds amounting to 5 million Euros for the construction of border markets.
Uganda Export Promotion Board (UEPB is encouraging local exporters to take advantage of the Preferential Trade Agreements that give opportunities to traders and allow them to access regional and international markets .
