New Book Criticises ICC for Suffocating African Justice Mechanisms 4 1

Launching the book in Kampala, Phil Clark said a strong notion of distance justice is not only reflected in the geographical location of the court but also in the various ways it operates. He says the Work of the International Criminal Court is also crippling African creativity for dealing with African problems such as conflicts. He cites the failure of the Juba Peace process between the Lord’s Resistance Army and the government of Uganda as one case which could have ended the conflict peacefully.

ICC Resumes Screening of Ongwen Trial in Northern Uganda 1 4

The ongoing phase is featuring testimonies of prominent defence witnesses testifying before The Hague based court. The Court is trying Ongwen for 70 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity, sexual and gender based crimes, allegedly committed during the course of the Lord’s Resistance Army conflict in Northern Uganda.

ICC Defends Use of Government Evidence Against Ongwen 2

However, Gumpert says integrating the evidence collected by government doesnt make the court bias. He says the court only exploited the Complementarity provisions within the Rome Statute that established the International Criminal Court.
