The reigning 2023 world cross country champion had earlier on been entered for 5,000 and 10,000 meter races together with his compatriots Joshua Cheptegei, Joel Ayeko and Rogers Kibet, who are set to leave the country on 17th for the 10,000m final race scheduled for Sunday August 19th.
Kiplimo says, he was not prepared for it, although his management had registered him for the event which is scheduled for June 2, 2023, in Italy. According to Kiplimo, he is now focusing on, the Oslo Diamond League which will take place on June 15, in Norway.
Uganda has assembled a team of over 10 long distance led by the two star athletes. Besides Jochua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo, the team comprises Albert Chemutai 3,000M Steeplechase, Peruth Chemutai 3,000M – St’chase, Esther Chebet (10,000M), Steven Kissa(10,000M), Stella Chesang (5,000M), Sarah Chelengat (5,000M), Benjamin Kiplagat (3,000M St’chase), Racheal Zena Chebet (1,0000M), Oscar Chelimo (5,000M).
Kiplimo ran for 12:55:60 head of Kenya’s duo Daniel Simiyu who posted 12:55:88 and Boniface Kibiwott who came third with 13:06:26. The Olympics qualifying Mark for the 5000m race is 13:13.50.
At last year’s Golden Spike, Kiplimo won the 5000m clocking a Personal Best of 12:48.63. He also claimed world U20 bronze as a 15-year-old in 2016 at Personal Best of 27:26.68.
Youngster Jacob Kiplimo continued with his good form when he won the Cross Internacional de Itlica in Santiponce, near the Spanish city of Seville on Sunday.
Ugandas Joshua Cheptegei was in good form to win the 2018 Cross Internacional de Itlica 11.1km in Santiponce on the outskirts of the Spanish city of Seville on Sunday.
Ugandas coach Benjamin Longiros has said Joshua Cheptegei was unlucky to pick up a muscle cramp during the mens senior race at the 2017 IAAF World Cross Country Championship on Sunday.
Speaking at the launch of the competition, the Vice President of Uganda Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi called on Ugandans to support the athletes throughout their training ahead of the World Cross Country Championships in March this year.
Ugandas Jacob Kiplimo won a bronze medal in the final of the 10,000m race last night at the on-going 2016 World Junior Championship in Bydoszcz, Poland.
