The projects being funded by a 75-million Euro loan are expected to kick off by mid-2025. They are funded by the French in support of the European Union.
Members of Parliament sitting on the Natural Resources committee have expressed dismay at the state of disrepair at the Nalubaale and Kiira hydro power complex. The two dams are operated by ESCOM, a private firm which signed a Concession and Assignment Agreement CAA with the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited UEGCL.
Eskom Operations Manager Peter Tentena says that the nine flood gates can release up to one million cubic meters of water per second for every hour if let open at once. He however hastens to add that this cannot stop the production of electricity or affect the supply of water in Jinja and others parts.
