William Komakech, the Kitgum Resident District Commissioner says 34 primary contacts, mostly family members and friends have so far been traced and advised to self-isolate from home as the district lacks space for male suspects.
Walter Tooroma, the Kitgum Municipality Mayor revealed that two of the 10 mattresses meant for Pandwong HC III quarantine Centre in Pandwong Division have gone missing. He reported this to the weekly task force meeting held at the District council hall in Kitgum Municipality last evening.
Their fears have been compounded by stringent directives by the government that have since seen a ban on public transport, monthly markets, bars, and shops selling non-food items among others. These were some of the measures taken by the government to control the spread of the disease which has so far killed 42,361 people across the world. At least 44 people have so far tested positive for the deadly disease in Uganda.
Dr Geoffrey Okello, the Kitgum General Hospital Acting Medical Superintendent says the numbers have reduced significantly following reports of a patient who was isolated at the facility after presenting suspected symptoms of covid-19.
But officials at Kitgum Municipal Council say that the timeframe for procuring a contractor for the actual implementation of the project in June this year could be dragged behind schedule as a result of measures taken to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
The tipper truck registration number UAR 160M was carrying footballers from Kitgum Matidi Sub-county on their way for the Independence Cup Football tournament in Lagoro Sub County organized by Lillian Aber, the National Youth Council Chairperson.

Kitgum General Hospital started managing sickle cell patients earlier this year. The hospital manages an average of 15 children under 2 years with the disease and in need of blood transfusion weekly. At least 3 new cases in children between 0 and 2 years are diagnosed at the hospital weekly.
