Legislators sitting on parliaments budget committee have declined to approve a Ministry of Defence supplementary request of 6.5 billion Shillings intended to kick-start a solar project in military installations.
Officials from the defence ministry have declined to reveal the number of Uganda Peoples Defence Forces UPDF soldiers, instead asking legislators to approve an extra 22 billion Shillings for food.
The funding gap has however triggered anxiety among legislators who argue that the Internal Security Organisation cannot execute its mandate under such circumstances. They say that such a casual approach to intelligence and security exposes the country to ill motives of terrorists groups.
The legislators are suggesting an allowance of 288,000 Shillings for nurses, doctors and other health workers bringing the lunch allocation to 12,000 Shillings per day, per person.
