Peter Musinguzi has dropped out of the race for the the Bunyangabu District Local Council chairpersons seat. Musinguzi, the interim district chairperson since July this year, was nominated last week as an Independent candidate following his defeat in the NRM party primaries by his rival, James Ategeka.

Delays Mar Start of NRM Elections in New Districts peter musinguzi 1

In Bunyangabu district, voting was expected to start at 8: 00am from the 101 polling stations in the district but kicked off at 10:00am. In Rukiga district, voting materials were still being ferried to the polling stations by 8am when the exercise was slated to start. In Namisindwa district the exercise delayed to start due to late delivery of voting materials. Voting was supposed to start at 8:00 am but it did not start until after 9am.

Joint campaigns for the National Resistance Movement- NRM party contenders for Bunyangabu district have kicked off. The NRM primary elections are scheduled for August 21, while the main elections will take place a month later on September 21.

Musinguzi polled nine votes while his sole challenger Moses Ikagobya recorded five votes. The voting exercise was undertaken by 14 councilors, who were all members of the original District Council representing the sub counties within the new district.

Candidates Upbeat as Bunyangabu District Becomes Operational moses ikagobya 1

Moses Ikagobya, the current vice chairperson Kabarole district and councillor representing Buheesi Sub County will contest against Peter Musinguzi, the Secretary Finance and Administration. Seventeen councillors in Bunyagabu will elect the interim chairperson. The guidelines for the election issued by the EC stipulate that the quorum at a meeting for election of an interim chairperson shall be two thirds of all the members of the Interim Council.

Ntoroko Residents Reject Proposal to Split Constituency peter musinguzi 2

The leaders argue that a new constituency will increase representation of divergent opinions and cater for the interests of the various ethnic groups in the area. Ntoroko is mainly inhabited by the Batuku, Bakonzo and Bamba communities. But residents say that Ntoroko has more pressing issues that should be addressed as opposed to splitting the constituency.
