According to Barnabas Rugyenda, an enforcement officer in Kalungu attached to the district veterinary office, the impounded cattle were being transported from Tanzania to Kampala through Kalungu district despite the livestock quarantine which was recently placed on most parts of the cattle corridor districts following the outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD).
Leonard Makya, the Chairperson of Lukaya Animal Traders and Butcher Owners Association says closing down operations of livestock-related businesses have got grave financial implications they cannot bear with.
