The third test oil drilling in West Nile that was expected to take place in December in Obongi has been postponed after National Environment Management Authority has failed to approve the environmental impact assessment (EIA).
Residents of Amuru district say they are frustrated by their failure to secure funding for their projects under the second phase of the Northern Uganda Social Action Fund. The Northern Uganda Social Action Fund II was launched in February 2010 and the generation of projects by the communities for funding begun five months later in August.
Three people were on Friday sentenced to life imprisonment for killing Fred Walugembe, the Rakai district Records Officer. The three are Josephine Nakabugo, who is Walugembeâ€™s widow and two casual laborers Antonio Habyarimaana and Francis Kwashaho. Masaka High Court judge Elizabeth Ibanda found the trio guilty for Walugembeâ€™s murder.
